About Buddy
This blog isn’t actually written by my dog Buddy, but it does mostly express what the dogs in my life are teaching me about dogs – and sometimes even about people, including me…sometimes even about life, period. And Buddy, the dog with whom i am most intimate, is my greatest doggie teacher.
There’s lots more about Buddy – my sweet, lovable mutt, adopted only in March of ’08, when he was already eight years old – in the various posts here. Just read away – or search for “Buddy”.
About me:
Born and raised in Chicago, I spent 20 years working as a Ph.D. psychologist and another 15 as an organization development management consultant. These days i live in Asheville, North Carolina, where i write and walk dogs .
Caring for dogs seems pretty much the perfect job: I get to make so many wonderful doggie friends – and people friends, too. When I am sitting for a dog whose people are out of town, I become their person. They rely on me not just for food and exercise, but for the human contact that most dogs need to be really happy. It is, for me, a labor of love. And their people are so comforted by knowing that their dog is being loved, not just walked, when they are not there to do it. And when I provide mid-day walks or extended visits for dogs whose people are in town, but – either short-term or for a longer period – awfully busy, the dog is happier and therefore the people are happier.
Would that all the jobs I have done were so satisfying.
